Shaytan Creates Confusion During Salah

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) has recorded this Hadith. Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) reported that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Shaytan comes to one of you [while he is in Salah] and strikes him near his posterior [to create confusion]. Therefore, he should not exit the Salah, unless he hears a sound, smells something [wind], or deliberately [passes wind].” (As Sunanul Kubra, vol. 2, pg. 254) ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) has declared one of the narrators weak. (Al Muhaddhab, Hadith: 2995) However, there are many other narrations which state that a person should only exit the Salah if he is certain that he has passed wind.
